Children's Mental Health

Last week the children learnt about the new calm zone we are creating outside Kestrels and Sparrows classrooms. The pupil voice champions have been working with Miss Gover and Mrs Luddington to develop this space. Champions suggested having binoculars for bird watching, bird boxes, bird identification sheets so they can learn about the different types of birds and recognise them, colouring, books and bean bags in the area. We will have waffle blocks for children to build with, friendship benches and bubbles which are great to remind children to focus on your breathing if you feel worried and are great fun to play with!

Places2Be, the children's mental health charity have launched a really helpful resource on their website called 'Parenting Smart', it is filled with a number of resources for parents and carers of 4-11 year olds including how to problem solve with our children. Latest articles include supporting healthy gaming habits, developing a child's talent and safe social media for younger children and can all be read or watched in under ten minutes:

The Website includes parenting advice from the charity's child mental health experts and practical tips to support children’s wellbeing and behaviour

On Tuesday 14th March we had a parent information evening to discuss how Merley First School can support Children's mental health in school. Thank you to everyone that came along. If you were unable to attend please see the information workshop below.
